Everyone’s understanding of the concept of an ECG monitor is an instrument that displays data, but how does it display data? What are the basic principles? Today I will introduce to you.

ECG monitors are often used in surgery or post-operation, trauma care, coronary heart disease, critically ill patients, newborns, hyperbaric oxygen chambers, delivery rooms, etc. The general ECG monitor system is mainly composed of sensors, signal processing systems, control systems, and display alarm systems.

Its basic principle is to perceive various physiological changes through sensors, and then amplifiers enhance the information, and then convert it into electrical information. After the data analysis software calculates, analyzes and edits the data, it finally displays the data in each functional module of the display screen, or records and prints as needed. When the monitoring data exceeds the set index, the system will activate the alarm system and send out a signal to attract the attention of medical staff.

The monitor is different from the clinical diagnostic instrument. It can continuously monitor the changes of the patient's physiological parameters for several hours or even hundreds of hours, and can be compared with the limit values set by the doctor. If an out-of-tolerance alarm occurs, some monitors can also perform emergency treatment.

The parameters measured by the monitor can be divided into two types: power and non-power. Electricity signals such as ECG signals are directly collected by electrodes. Non-electricity signals such as blood pressure, body temperature, respiration, and blood oxygen need to be collected by various sensors, and then converted into electric signals with a certain functional relationship, and then amplified and recorded and displayed. Therefore, for For the detection of non-electricity, the sensor is the key.

The widespread use of ECG monitors has brought great convenience to medical workers, patients and their families. More and more high-quality monitors are applied to hospitals to protect the health of all of us.
